Oiy.
I am only sorry I did not find this one sooner than over the holiday break.
I am a long time etymology fan... digging into words and word origins is fun.
When you take that idea and combine it with someone who believes that Intelligence is sexy, and lists the
OED as her favorite link... well it is starting to sound even better.
But even if you hate words, you will love with video podcast- and maybe even learn something.
Take a 27 year old Philologist named Marina with a body like a porn star ( and who is not afraid to play with it) and have her talk for 5 minutes or so on a topic about the origin of words. How can you lose? Check out
the HotforWordschannel or her
WebSite if you like the sample below..

I hate Reality TV
As a Rule, even. I will not even start watching a show once it is billed as "reality". I think it shows a deep loss of creativity in our general culture that people can not come up with new forms of entertainment other than setup competitions and extreme voyeurism.
With One Exception.
Project Runway.
I can not explain this. I is almost embarrassing to admit how much I love this show. There is no explaining it. I have tried to rationalize it to myself:
" the show is a competition, but the contestants have to be creative to stay on"- HA! so do the folks on American Idol or Worlds Most Talented Dog ( I made that one up, but it could be a show, right?) and truth is- I Hate those shows. I find them painful and tormented to watch. The judging process kills me.
" I am just jealous because I can not sew, and I am amazed"- Right!! Like I could sing or cut hair or survive in the wilderness or have seduce every guy on the show ( ok, well, maybe the last one- but--moving on...)
Honestly, I think it is the clothes. I am in lust with the amazing clothes cranked out every week. I want to be one of those models ( NOT likely) just so I could wear some of them. Oh. My. God. The clothes... I do not even mind watching the judging process-- does not matter if I agree or disagree. I hate the personal drama and soap opera that develops and have been known to skip episodes ( or even a half a season once) when it gets to be TOO much. But I keep coming back. For the clothes. The new contestants had great quotes on this topic for the kickoff this season. One of the female designers said " life is too short to wear a bad outfit", and another male designer admitted to sleeping on the floor at home because " I would rather spend money on clothes than a bed".
So, I was excited that Hulu includes some of the Bravo shows and this is one of them. If this keeps up, between Joost and Bravo, Netflix for movies-- I am "this" close to dumping my cable TV, spending the money we save on a great PC/Flat screen setup for the Living room and just run from that. Really. I need to find someone who is picking up Discovery Channel and BBC shows first, though.
If you have an IP in the US, I bring you the kickoff of season 4 of Project Runway: ( if you are not in the US, write NBC an email and bitch at them....)

killing time ( as if I have time to kill or was not going to get into trouble for murder later on....) and
freyamoon pointed me too this oh so cute video/song:
The artist actually has quite a number of songs out on Youtube and is publishing a CD.. http://www.youtube.com/user/hexachordal.
I am also fond of this one:
to bad he is so danged young.... it is very very wrong of me to get goofy about a singer who is about my daughter's age.. it is wrong.. wrong I tell you..

got my hulu beta this morning... there are a lot of interface things I would tweak and change, but the video delivery itself is much better than joost was at the same beta point. The real test will be to see how they scale. Not sure how they will handle huge load. I was amused to find Nanny and the Professor online.. wow. Memory Lane and all.
Not sure if you can see this outside the US, let me know.

After sending a resignation letter that saddened me deeply, a friend and fellow Kwakconer sent me this link.
OMG.
The funny, it huts.
The timing is just a little bit off ( like I could do better), but someone spent WAY too many hours pouring over Star Trek episodes to find these clips.

Wow.
I do not know if I should be astounded or incredibly jealous. How do I get friends like these??? All they need is a little glo in the dark to be completely over the top. But you know what, OMG--FUN!!
This video is NOT SAFE FOR WORK. DO NOT click PLAY if you are still at work. They are, after all, the naked dance sensation.. and although this video really does not show any exposed parts.. it is all blurred out, a lot of work places would still call it questionable.
Just. Amazed.

The links are questionably SFW-- if oblique references to sex or pictures of vibrators would cause you issues, please wait until you get home.

Last Tuesday we headed to Lafayette to celebrate Nicky's 8th birthday. He had a swim Party with his Mom and Dad and all his school friends the weekend before, so this was a scaled down dinner gathering with us , Ogre's parents and Grandma ( Nicky's grandparents and great-grandma). We did not do a cake or any big celebration, just birthday Sundaes to celebrate. Sam gave Nicky a skate board, so Xandra and I gave him gear along with some other presents. The skateboarding of course had to be tried out ASAP... click through for other pics if you need to kill some time.
I also shot a few tiny snippets of his first attempts.. you can see him put foot on the board here :

iTunes has this nice "free music Tuesday" feature where every Tuesday they release some songs that are free. As in it does not cost you anything... ( eMusic is even better, they have a free download every day... that is 365 free songs per year!!).
Apple sometimes includes a music video in the freebies.. and this week's is a serious winner.
Truly surreal music video.. Dave Matthews Band.
Eh Hee.
Grab it.
Even if you do not want to own it... go check it out!!

This one is dedicated to my friends, family members and all the friends right here who work in libraries. You know, there are enough of you that I begin to suspect that I am a librarian hag ;-)
I got pointed to this video on Susie Bright's blog. (
not safe for work, but a must have at home..). I was out there trying to find more information about an erotica writing class that she referenced on her podcast, but alas I shall have to wait for more details. Oh want a great wait to spend an evening that is significantly less mind numbing than TV? Listen to an entire month's worth of her podcasts in one evening!. It is a podcast that I usually eagerly anticipate listening to every Saturday morning ( spices up the grocery shopping), so that tells you something about how stupidly insane the month of August was for me...

I would have ridden right past my stop, just to play along. How did that guy with the headphones just stand there and glare.... even if this is not your style of music, how can you not find the energy contagious??

There is nothing earth shattering or secret in this video, but the collection of numbers and ideas makes you stop and think..
the whole "what you learn now is going to be obsolete 3 years from now" is a fallacy that came out of twisted stats, but the majority of what they are saying is absolutely true...

If you are an early adopter, love video media, TV or film, this is notice that the period for applying for a Joost Beta is about to end. They are
taking. After that , until the public release you will only be able to test by invitation from someone who is a Beta tester.
For more on what Joost is, and how it will be different from TV and the future of the media.. check out the
video blog entries on the Joost website.
Can you tell I am excited about this? I really believe that if the interface is done correctly, we could be seeing the birth of the next phase of media entertainment...
Remember- it is a BETA program. Do not sign up if you are not willing to suffer through the pangs of any beta testing... applications through this Thursday
